The Board of the International Institute of Noise Control Engineering (I-INCE) is pleased to announce I-INCE Young Scientists Conference Attendance Grants (YS Grants) to assist young scientists/engineers in attending the 41th International Congress on Noise Control Engineering (INTER-NOISE 2012) to be held in New York City, USA, 19-22 August 2012. The I-INCE board has allocated funds to support eighteen grants, each having a value of 500 EUR. The YS Grant will include complimentary registration for the congress. The remainder of the 500 EUR grant will be available at the time of the congress as a contribution to partially cover travel and accommodation expenses. Notification of the award of the prestigious YS Grant may be used to assist with obtaining additional funding from other sources.
Candidates must be relatively early in their professional careers (typically less than 10 years of active career). They can be either undergraduate or postgraduate students, postdoctoral, or young acousticians or noise control engineers working in industry. Preference will be given to students.
The grant application and INTER-NOISE 2012 abstract submission deadline is 2012 February 15; the grant application deadline will not be extended. Candidates must submit the completed application form (available here) via the I-INCE website . It is assumed that each application is supported by the candidate's supervisor or where practical, by an officer of the candidate's local member society of the I-INCE (details of the member societies can be found on the I-INCE website by following the Membership link on the left hand side.
The official website of INTER-NOISE 2012 will provide instructions for the submission and presentation of papers (abstract and full paper). Note that all candidates must submit their abstracts and full paper manuscripts in the same manner as other authors, and must follow regulations as required by INTER-NOISE 2012.
Grant applicants must follow these steps:
- Go to the INTER-NOISE 2012 website - www.internoise2012.com.
- Upload your title and abstract. The subject of each grant application must be consistent with the mission of I-INCE.
- Receive your abstract number.
- Now, go to the I-INCE website (www.i-ince.org and select Young Professionals link) (link should be available on INTER-NOISE 2012 website as well).
- Submit your application using the supplied form in either PDF or MSword via the I-INCE website using the upload process below. Make sure you include your abstract number with your application (MANDATORY).
IMPORTANT - RENAME THE FORM WITH YOUR ABSTRACT NUMBER BEFORE UPLOADING
Applications will be assessed by the I-INCE YS Grants Subcommittee. Notification will be provided to successful applicants by approximately 2012 April 6 along with their complimentary registration identification number; if there is a wait list, they will be informed. The awardees/applicants must complete registration, comply with the deadlines for submission of the manuscript as described at the INTER-NOISE 2012 website, and participate in the Congress. To receive the remaining grant money, the successful candidates must attend the congress, present themselves personally to the conference organizers with verification documents such as passport or identity card, and present their paper during the congress. Note that no (cash) payments will be made to successful candidates prior to the congress.
All grant applicants will be invited to attend the Young Scientists Workshop at INTER-NOISE 2012. This workshop presents an opportunity for young scientists to network with experts in the field. Details will be made available to all grant applicants.
