Three workshops were held during 2007 and 2008 on noise control engineering education: Following each of these workshops a source book was written and distributed to panelists, attendees, and other interested individuals. The three articles then underwent additional copy editing, and were published in three issues of Noise/News International (NNI). This single
PDF file contains the three articles as extracted from the issues of NNI. Further, readers may be interested in Chapter 9 ("Education Supply and Industry Demand for Noise Control Specialists", pp. 121-130) of the book entitled, Technology for a Quieter America, National Academies Press (2010), available online here. I-INCE held a workshop for Young Professionals at INTER-NOISE 2010 in Lisbon, Portugal on 2010 June 15. The workshop was organized by Professor Raj Singh, I-INCE Vice President of Technical Activities. The purpose of the inaugural workshop was to mentor young noise control engineers, discuss some research problems at the cutting edge of technology and provide an informal forum for networking between senior and junior professionals. Twelve grants were awarded during the workshop to Young Professionals early in their careers. These grants included conference registration, with the remainder of the fee grant presented to the winners at the conference to partially offset travel expenses. The workshop concluded with lunch and informal exchanges between attendees. Plans are underway to hold such workshops at INTER-NOISE 2011 and 2012. More details on the workshop can be found here. We hope members of your society enjoyed INTER-NOISE 2010 in Lisbon, Portugal 2010 June 13-16. The congress was excellent and in a beautiful venue. For more details, please visit the congress web site at http://www.spacustica.pt/internoise2010. The deadline for abstract submission for INTER-NOISE 2010 has been moved to 2010 January 31. Contact the Conference Secretariat to submit an abstract and participate in the technical program. This year the I-INCE Board of Directors has initiated a new program to support the travel expenses of young investigators participating in the congress. Support will be provided to the level of 500 Euro. Details can be found at http://www.spacustica.pt/internoise2010/text/young_cientist_grants.html. Please inform qualified young scientists about this program. Final agreement has been reached with INCE/USA to host INTER-NOISE 2012 in New York City during the period 2012 August 12-15. Steve Hambric will be the General Chair. You should see more details emerging as INCE/USA starts to publicize the congress. At the 2009 Board of Directors meeting, the Asia-Pacific region was identified as the region that will host INTER-NOISE 2014. Informal proposals will be presented in Lisbon on Saturday morning 2010 June 12. The draft minutes of the General Assembly meeting held in Ottawa have been posted here. If you have any comments, please send them to me at any time. We will discuss and approve these minutes at the General Assembly meeting in Lisbon at the 2010 General Assembly meeting which will be held at 13.00 on Sunday 2010 June 13. An agenda and details about the venue of the General Assembly meeting in Lisbon will be sent several months prior to the meeting. Robert J. Bernhard
